Gujarati Divas Celebrated In Jersey City

16, May 1999Jersey City has one of the largest community of Gujaratis in New Jersey. On May 1st of this month, for the first time in the United States, Gujarati Divas was celebrated. It was celebrated with two organizations and they were the Indo-American Senior Citizen's Association of Hudson Country and the Gujarat Foundation. The program lasted for three hours.
The guests who came were the renowned poet Shir Manhar Modi who is a well-known Temple architect, Shir Hariprasad Sompura, and Dr. Babubhai Patel of Sarwoday Hospital. Other community leaders of New Jersey who attended were Shri Raju Patel, Shir Ashwin Shah,, Shri Manoj Patel, Shri Shivrambhai Patel, Shri Joseph Parmar, Shri Shantibhai Patel, Shri Tailor, Pastor Shri Anil Patel, Trustee of Govinda Temple Shri Abhay Shukla, and reporter Shir Arun Kantharia. These were just some of the speakers of the function. Mr. Kashik Amin was the president of the function and special guest was poet Shri Manhar Modi. The Chief Minister of the State of Gujarat Mr. Keshubhai Patel sent a special note on this auspicious occasion. And additionally, he mentioned that the Gujarati Foundation had formed in order to help out N.R.I. Gujaratis.
