Summary:
Nowadays, in the Contemporary
Indian Architecture likein Residential or
Commercial buildings or Hotels,we see many
elements like Pillars, Brackets and Arches
which borrow their style from European Churches.
I believe that the style of Indian Temples
instead of European Churches should be incorporated
in the Contemporary Indian Architecture.
These elements of Indian Temples and European
Churches share the same advantages and
disadvantages like cost and weight as they
both can be made with the same material
and method.Only the design varies. Then why
are we not using Indian Designs instead
of European Designs in our Contemporary
Indian Architecture? Traditional Indian
Temples also have the same elements like
the pillars, arches, brackets, cornices,
canopies, domes, window frames etc which
can be used in today’s Contemporary
General Architecture like in Residential
and commercial buildings or hotels. Various
principles of Traditional Indian Architecture
with regard to the planning, construction
and proportion can also be beneficial to
the Contemporary General Architecture.This
way our Traditional Indian Architectural
style will remain alive and it can later
be spread to the whole world which will
be a matter of great pride for all of us
Indians. Since I have expertise in both
the styles, (the Tradtional style I learnt
from my family and the modern style I learnt
in Architecture College),I am committed
and am working on making the Traditional
Indian Architecture globally popular like
Yoga & Meditation
Message:
In our country, during the British rule, the
British government designed buildings in European
style because they wanted to show that they
were the boss. The Britishors have left India
since sixty years but have smartly left their
footprints here by means of so many buildings
designed in their style of architecture.Mumbai
has almost all the styles of European Architecture
like Gothic,Neo-Gothic,Baroque,etc. Designing
buildings in European style became a trend
in Mumbai since the British rule.
Even after getting the independence,we did
not bother to reverse this trend.Because it
was easier and more convenient to copy the
European style, as the trend was already set
since decades.
The drawings of European
Architecture are easily available compared
to the drawings of the Traditional Indian
Architecture. So it is easier to study, design
and build the architectural style of Europe
compared to the Indian style. So we still
continue to design our buildings in European
style of Architecture in our own country.
The result is that in our Contemporary Indian
Architecture, the style and elements of European
and other foreign architecture are adopted
while the Traditional Indian style and elements
are neglected.
The Architectural styles of Europe and other
countries are used in the Contemporary Architecture
of the whole world.
While India’s architectural style is
not used even within India.
Why?
While we all know, that our Historic Architectural
style is one of the best in the world and
therefore it deserves its place with other
styles.
Remakes of Hollywood films are made in India
since decades, which is no matter of pride
for us Indians.
But today,Hollywood is making remakes of some
Indian Hindi films , which is a matter of
great pride for all Indians.
Similarly,when our Architectural style will
be accepted and used by the whole world,it
will be a matter of great pride for all Indians.
Our Indian Architecture, films and other arts
have not been promoted like those of other
countries, which we must do now.
Let me clarify that in today’s time
of Global Culture,I am not against any foreign
culture. But the exchange between two cultures
should be a two way process.Starting from
the Aryans to the Britishors,we Indians have
aceepted the qualities of foreign cultures. Now
it is our turn to spread the qualities of
our Indian culture to the whole world and
thus add to the global culture.
Various principles of Traditional Indian Architecture
with regard to the planning, construction
and proportion can be used in the contemporary
general architecture.
Additionally,Traditional Indian Architecture
have many elements like the pillars, arches, brackets, cornices, canopies, domes, window
frames which can be used in today’s
Contemporary General Architecture like in
Residential and commercial buildings or hotels.
This way our traditional Indian Architectural
style will remain alive and it can later be
spread to the whole world which will be a
matter of great pride for all of us Indians.
Since I have expertise in both the styles,
(the Tradtional style I learnt from my family
and the modern style I learnt in Architecture
College),I am committed and am working on
making the Traditional Indian Architecture
globally popular like Yoga & Meditation.
For this I have digitized drawings of Traditional
Indian Architecture,written a book,made a
film,lectured in Universities, hosted exhibitions
and also run an art-gallery in order to spread
awareness.
